Folios 68-69. (1) Francis Johnson to the King. Petition that he has served the Crown in a civil and military capacity for upwards of 35 years, is now very old and infirm and cannot provide for his family and praying 'to succeed to the place of the first Poor Knight of Windsor that shall happen to die'. (2) John Philipps to the Duke of Newcastle. Letter. 'My father Sir John Philipps not having the honour to be known to your Grace, lately applied to Sir Robert Walpole to beg the favour of your Grace to get Mr Francis Johnson minuted for the first vacancy of a Poor Knight of Windsor, he having served the Crown for many years with great faithfulness, and Sir Robert was so kind to promise to speak to your Grace in his behalf. The enclosed is Mr Johnson's petition'. [Sir John Phillips 4th Baronet died 5 January 1737].
