Folios 100-101. Memorials of Richd [Richard] Copithorne to (1) the King for relief his ship and cargo having been seized on 18 June 1727 (three days after the preliminary Articles were signed between Great Britain and Spain) by a Spanish privateer under Turkish colours, taken into Malaga and condemned as a prize. (2) the Duke of Newcastle that having long expected restitution under the Treaty [of Seville] for the loss of his ship the 'Betty' and its cargo he has received no relief and of necessity is now applying to the Duke's 'just sentiments if any hopes of being reimbursed what has been so wrongfully taken from' him 'or if so happy as to expect your Grace's continuance of some employ in the government suitable thereto'.
