Folios 100-102. (1) Petition of John Peck on behalf of Mrs Crop [Cropp] widow, the mother of James Crop 'who is to be executed tomorrow' praying that the sentence be commuted to one of transportation. [Old Bailey Online gives the date of conviction as 13 April 1743 and the date of execution as 18 May 1743]. (2) Petition of James Cropp praying for mercy having been capitally convicted of the highway robbery of Bernard Merest Byfield. With certificate and recommendation for mercy signed by the prosecutor and 73 others [including three women].
