Description

This series consists of minutes of the Board of Admiralty, 1657 to 1802; rough minutes, 1792 to 1839; and special minutes, 1761 to 1881.

Arrangement

The volumes are grouped in into three sequences: Board's minutes, rough minutes and special minutes. Each set is arranged is in date order, except that some earlier volumes of appear out of numerical sequence towards the end of the series. Gaps exist in the date sequence where volumes do not survive or are not held by The National Archives.

Before 1752, Admiralty minutes followed the convention of the year starting on 25 March. However, date ranges in the catalogue entries follow the modern-style years starting on 1 January.
