Administrative / biographical background

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute is an executive non-departmental public body, established in 2006 by merging the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD)'s Science Service and the Agricultural Research Institute of Northern Ireland. The Institute undertakes research and statutory analytical, diagnostic and testing functions for DARD and also provides services to other government departments and carries out work for public bodies and private sector organisations under contract.
