The Vehicle Registration, Licensing and Taxation (VRLT) existed within the Department of Transport. It was responsible for vehicle taxation and the operation and development of the vehicle registration system.
Its other responsibilities included the enforcement of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED), the processing of VED, and the administration of the local office network.
In 1991 the division was changed to Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). (No details are available separately)
