1841
Prisoner name: John Gidley.
Court and Date of Trial: Plymouth Quarter Sessions, April 1840.
Crime: Larceny.
Initial sentence: 18 months imprisonment.
Outcome: Nil.
Petitions and letters: The prisoner says he was convicted of stealing a sugar basin, a tea spoon and a pair of sugar tongs from an inn. He admits that his habits have been irregular and intemperate. He entered the inn in a state of intoxication and his offence was more drunken than felonious. He claims to be in weak health. A second petition on the same lines was referred for a report but a certificate from the prison surgeon says that he is in perfect health.
