Listing continued from ADM 137/22/2.

Folios 341-368: S.S. Cornish City (ship's official number ON 123680). Owned by Messrs. W.R. Smith & Sons, The Instow S.S. Co., Cardiff captured and sunk on 21 September 1914 by Karlsruhe in position Lat. 1¢ª55¡¯S Long. 32¢ª5¡¯W. Captain Julius Bethke sailed from Barry Docks on 3 September for Rio de Janeiro with 5,500 tons of coal. Captured 20 miles to westward of regular trade route neglecting Admiralty instructions. Crew landed at Teneriffe, (folio 342). Correspondence regarding her loss, (folios 343-348). Steamers captured by Karlsruhe, (folio 349). Diary of the Captain from 3 September to 14 October 1914 with remarks and notes on operation of the Karlsruhe, (folios 350-361). (Paper number M 28502) deposition of the Captain under oath, (folios 364-366). Correspondence on capture near to trade route, (folios 367-368).

Folios 369-380: SS Rio Iguassu (ship's official number ON 110004). Owned by Messrs. Petersen & Co, London captured and sunk on 22 September 1914 by Karlsruhe in position Lat.0¢ª40¡¯S Long. 31¢ª20¡¯W. Sailed from Dunston-on-Tyne 5 September 1914 for Rio de Janeiro with 4,281 tons of coal. Captain George Johnstone had kept well off the regular trade route but when captured was crossing it for Brazilian territorial waters. Crew landed at Teneriffe, (folio 370). Correspondence regarding insurance, (folios 371-374). (Paper number M 19624) Captain¡¯s examination on oath, (folio 375). Correspondence regarding position of capture, (folios 376-379). Newspaper cuttings on charthouse and charts drifting ashore and discovery of a lifeboat, (folio 380).

Folios 381-396: SS Farn (Ship's official number ON 129135). Owned by Messrs. Farrar, Groves & Co Ltd, London captured on 5 October 1914 by Karlsruhe in position Lat. 0¢ª46¡¯S Long. 30¢ª50¡¯W. Sailed from Barry, South Wales for Montevideo with 5,810 tons of coal and coke. Captain George Thomas Alleyne was 40 miles to the east of his usual course but closer to two other trade routes. Crew landed at Teneriffe. The Farn was used as a lookout ship, (folio 382). Correspondence regarding insurance, (folios 383-386). Captain¡¯s Examination on Oath, (folios 387-388). Interview between Commander Tarleton of the Trade Division and the Captain of Farn, (folios 389-390). Reports that the Farn as a German auxiliary is interned in San Juan, Port Rico, (folios 391-396).

Folios 397-402: SS Niceto De Larrinaga (ship's official number ON 135433). Owned by The Miguel de Larrinaga Steamship Co., Liverpool captured on 6 October 1914 by Karlsruhe and sunk in position 0¢ª35¡¯S Long. 29¢ª48¡¯W. Sailed from Buenos Aires on 24 September for London with 8,000 tons of general goods and grain. Captain Robert Francis Nagle had steered vessel 45 miles to east of trade route. Vessel was sunk on 7 October and crew landed at Teneriffe, (folio 398). Statement by Captain, (folios 400-401). (Paper number M 18797) Captain¡¯s examination on oath, (folio 402).

Folios 403-407: SS. Lynrowan (ship's official number 124095). Owned by The Liver Shipping Co. Ltd., Liverpool captured and sunk on 7 October 1914 by Karlsruhe in position Lat. 0¢ª25¡¯S Long. 29¢ª54¡¯W. Sailed from Buenos Aires on 24 Sept. for Liverpool with 5,500 tons of general goods. Captain Arthur Jones was steering a course 45 miles east of trade route, (folio 404). Captain¡¯s Examination on oath, (folios 406-407).

Folios 408-416: SS. Cervantes (ship's official number 105301). Owned by The Liverpool, Brazil & River Plate S.N. Co., Liverpool captured and sunk on 8 October 1914 by Karlsruhe in position Lat. 0¢ª40¡¯S. Long. 29¢ª40¡¯W. Sailed from Rio de Janeiro on 1 October 1914 for Liverpool with 4,540 tons of general cargo. Captain Edward Joseph Holten was steering a course 50 miles east of trade route. Crew landed at Teneriffe, (folio 409). Statement by Master regarding capture and operation of Karlsruhe and her auxiliaries. Included is a list of other vessels captured and their positions, (folios 411-413). (Paper number M 19119) disposition by Captain on oath, (folio 414). Statement by Captain dated 10 November 1914, (folio 415).

Folios 417-423: SS. Pruth (ship's official number 120529). Owned by The Mercantile S.S. Co., London captured and sunk on 9 October 1914 by Karlsruhe in position Lat. 0¢ª27¡¯S Long. 29¢ª46¡¯W. Sailed from Montevideo on 23 September for St Vincent with 6,100 tons of nitrate of soda and barley. Captain James Evans was steering a course 90 miles east of trade route. Karlsruhe had obtained Admiralty instructions to avoid trade routes, (folio 418). Telegrams on news of missing Pruth, (folios 419-421). (Paper number M 18926)Captain¡¯s examination on oath, (folio 422).

Folios 424-436: SS Condor (ship's official number 102781). Owned by The New York & Pacific S.S. Co. Ltd., London captured on 11 October 1914 by Karlsruhe in position Lat. 2¢ª0¡¯S Long. 34¢ª0¡¯W. Sailed from Fernandina, Georgia USA on 25 September 1914 for Port Madryn, Argentina with 4,000 tons of general cargo. Captain S. Purdy was steering a course 165 miles clear of usual track, (folio 425). Captain¡¯s statement to owners regarding capture, operation of Karlsruhe using her auxiliaries as scouts, transfer of oil and provisions to Karlsruhe particular as belonging to a neutral, (folios 427-430). (Paper number M 28426) Captain¡¯s deposition and comments, (folios 431-432). Extract of Captain¡¯s log. Master S. Purdy, Chief engineer D. Laws, Chief Officer Hugh C. Warner, and Carpenter Carl Andersen, (folios 434-436).

Folios 437-464: SS Glanton (ship's official number 104815). Owned by Messrs. Steel, Young & Co., London captured and sunk 18 October 1914 by Karlsruhe in position Lat. 1¢ª22¡¯S Long. 31¢ª35¡¯W. Sailed from Barry Dock on 30 September 1914 for Montevideo with 3,800 tons of coal and general cargo. Captain George Authur had received Admiralty instructions to be 30 to 150 miles off usual track but when captured he was within 20 miles of it crossing from west to east, (folio 438). List of documents, (folio 439). Correspondence on instruction given to Master, (folios 440-446). Captain¡¯s examination on oath, (folio 447). Correspondence on the Master not following the Admiralty instructions, (folios 448-464).

Folios 465-471: SS Hurstdale (ship's official number 115321). Owned by Messrs. Lambert Bros., London, captured and sunk 23 October 1914 by Karlsruhe in position Lat. 1¢ª11¡¯S Long. 31¢ª55¡¯W. Sailed from Rosario on 7 October 1914 for Bristol with a cargo of 4,644 tons of maize. Captain John Williams was about 21 miles west of the usual track and had not carried out Admiralty instructions, (folio 466). Correspondence on the Master not following the Admiralty instructions, (folios 467-470). (Paper number M 21366) Captain¡¯s examination on oath, (folio 471).
