The Advisory Committee on Business Appointments is an advisory non-departmental public body to the Cabinet Office. It was established in 1975 to provide advice on applications from the most senior Crown servants who wished to take up outside appointments after they leave Crown service. The Committee makes recommendations to the Prime Minister, or to the Foreign Secretary in respect of members of the Diplomatic Service. Since 1995 the Committee has also provided advice directly to former Ministers on their employment outside government in the two years after leaving office.
