Listing continued from ADM 137/15/2.

Folios 186-241: (paper M 04840/14).

Folio 187: Letter dated 9 January 1915 by Vice Admiral Richard Henry Pierse, Commander in Chief, East Indies regarding the naval operations on 28 November 1914 on Dar Es Salaam, and the bombardment of the town on the 30 November 1914. Mentions the gallantry displayed by all Officers and men under heavy fire, recommends the award of the DSO to Commander Henry Peel Ritchie and the Medal for Conspicuous Gallantry for Leading Seaman Thomas A Gallagher and Petty Officer First Class, T Clarke and regrets the loss of Lieutenant Commander Patterson.

Folios 189-199: Report dated 6 December 1914 of demolition operations on Dar Es Salaam, 28 November 1914, by Captain Francis Wade Caulfeild, Senior Naval Officer East Coast of Africa, HMS Fox. Recommended the following for some mark of their Lordships favour: Commander Henry Peel Ritchie, HMS Goliath; Lieutenant Eric Reid Corson, HMS Fox; Lieutenant Herbert Walter Julian Orde, HMS Helmuth; Leading Seaman Thomas Arthur Gallagher, ON 222943, HMS Fox; Petty Officer First Class Thomas John Clark, Royal Fleet Reserve, ON A1535, HMS Goliath; Able Seaman George Upton, ON 190145, HMS Goliath.

Folio 255: Request by John William Stewart Anderson dated 9 March 1915 to the Medical Director General for particulars about Commander Henry Peel Ritchie wounds. Folios 256-257: Medical Director General’s particulars of Ritchie’s wounds, dated 10 March 1915, and comments concerning them.

Folio 258; Telegram number 142 to the Commander in Chief, East Indies, requesting twenty names of men for the award of the D.S.M, for operations in East Africa to date.

Folio 259: Letter dated 12 March 1915 by Commander Henry Peel Ritchie, 6 Glencairn Crescent, Edinburgh to John William Stewart Anderson Naval Assistant Secretary regarding his wounds.

Folio 260: Minute by the Naval Assistant dated 14 March 1915 to the First Lord of the Admiralty regarding the award to Commander Henry Peel Ritchie.

Folio 261: Minute dated 14 March 1915 by Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, First Lord of the Admiralty recommending the award of the Victoria Cross to Commander Henry Peel Ritchie.

Folio 265: Letter number 1111 dated 1 October 1914 from the India Office to the Admiralty forwarding a copy of a telegram sent to the Government of India regarding the orders to be communicated to the General Officer Commanding the Indian Expeditionary Force, B.

Folios 266-267: Telegram from India Office to Viceroy India dated 30 September 1914 conveying instructions to General Aitken, object of expedition is to bring German East Africa under British Authority.

Folio 268: Comments by Sir Henry Bradwardine Jackson dated 2 October 1914. HMS Fox has been earmarked for Mauritius convoy but is best if she remains with Expedition B.

Folios 269-274: Orders to the General Officer Commanding Indian Expeditionary Force B.

Folio 277: Telegram number H1476 dated 13 October 1914 by the Viceroy to India Office reporting that the Governor of the East African Protectorate suggests Navy should protect Zanzibar. Folio 280: Comments by Sir Henry Bradwardine Jackson dated 18 October 1914. States that a revised telegram by the India Office in view of the frequent calls for cruisers and presence of HMS Fox in the vicinity is unnecessary.

Folios 282-287: (paper M 02866/14).

Folio 284: Telegram number H 1602 dated 21 October 1914 by the Viceroy to India Office reporting 13 transports with 27th Infantry Brigade and Composite Infantry Brigade for Force B left Bombay on 16 October 1914.
