Mediterranean Sea: Italy, South-West coast: Sicilia (Sicily), North-East coast: Stretta di Messina. Entitled 'Plan of the Faro or Strait of Messina'. Chart shows coastlines, hydrography, anchorages, harbours, topography, land use, roads, settlements, buildings, fortifications including Fort Folly, Fort Joachim, military installations, land marks, remarks including mention of Charybdis and site of Column Rhegium, and drawn images of both sides of a roman coin featuring Alexander the Great. Watermark: 'J Whatman, 1816'. Engraved in ink. Latitude and longitude referred to in remarks; North point with compass indicator; magnetic variation referred to in remarks.
