Folios 63-65. Letter from Thomas Foubert to Holderness. Having been well received by His (late) Highness (Frederick) the Prince of Wales, and having had the honour of exibiting a wind pump to the Lords of the Admiralty, encloses information from Edward Macklackin (aged about 41) of the Parish of Innis, County Clare in Ireland. Detailing his exploits: being recruited for French service by Daniel Mullins of Waterford, serving at the seige of Phillipsburg in Germany [in 1734], came to England and was recruited for General Pococke's Regiment, serving in Ireland until taken prisoner in the attack against Cartagena [in 1741], continued in both Spanish and French service, until deserting from O'Bryan's Company of Lord Clare's Regiment last June. Includes details of recruiting officers for foreign service, particularly those of the Irish Brigade of the French army. Also a plea that his efforts in providing this information should be recognised with a place in 'His Lordships Office'.
