Description

Family settlement, indented, in favour of his brothers and sisters, by Roger Savage of Benshall in the manor of Etchells, Cheshire, gent, to Sir George Boothe of Dunham Massey, Cheshire, knight and baronet, and Sir William Davenport of Bramhall, Cheshire, relating to the grant of the manor of Etchells, Cheshire, in consideration of £100 paid cash down. With constitution of Ralph Wythers of Nether Knolle, Cheshire, as Savage's attorney. Signature of Roger Savage. Witnesses:- Robert Whitby; John Hardware; John Burtonwoode; Edward Flavill; Thomas Wennall.

Endorsed:- (1) memoranda that on 19 June 1637 Roger Savage paid 5s to Sir George Boothe for voiding this settlement, in the presence of George Venables junior, Francis Newton, and Peter Drinkwater; (2) memoranda that on 19 June 1637 Roger Savage paid 5s to Sir William Davemport for voiding this settlement, in the presence of William Hall, Richard Prestwiche, and Francis Newton; (3) memoranda that this indenture was shown to George Venables, William Hall, and Richard Prestwiche, witnesses examined on behalf of Ellen Savage, widow, defendant, and James Savage, complainant, on 20 January 1640.

Enclosed are two damaged documents recording:- (1) memoranda on behalf of widow Savage in her suit against James Savage, dated 29 October 1639 and signed by John Bradshaw; (2) a letter from Bradshaw bearing the same date to a Mr Werden, discussing the suit.
