Papers relating to riots in Bristol, comprising: two letters and related information from the Mayor and Aldermen of Bristol to Newcastle, reporting on and requesting assistance to deal with rioting in Bristol by colliers and others from Kingswood, Gloucestershire., protesting against the high price of wheat; a letter from Henry Fox to Hugh Valence Jones describing the measures he had taken to supply military assistance to the Mayor and Aldermen of Bristol; advice from the Attorney General on granting a 'nolle prosequi' [an abandonment of proceedings] to John Brickdale and John Chivers, accused of murdering William Fudge, one of the rioters; and a letter from the magistrates of Bristol to those of Chippenham warning about the possible spread of riotous behaviour, with a covering letter from Roger Holland, magistrate of Chippenham [Wiltshire], to Newcastle, about related suspicious behaviour in that town.
