Folios 12-18. Draft instructions from Newcastle to Colonel [Joseph] Yorke about an application made by 'the Pensionary' [of the States General] in relation to a [French] proposal about the restitution of the goods of French subjects taken by the Dutch in 'the last war' [the War of the Austrian Succession] and about a treaty of commerce between the United Provinces and France. Newcastle opposes the proposal as a threat to the continuing strong relationship between England and the United Provinces particularly in relation to France, under the marine treaty of 1674 [Peace of Westminster] and the Treaty of Defensive Alliance of 1678.
