The Licensing and Roadworthiness Policy Division was formed in 1997 and was responsible for the following:-
- Driver licensing including EC and other international aspects, medical provisions, mutual recognition of disqualifications, conduct regimes for vocational drivers, motor insurance and liaison with the motor insurance industry
- Vehicle taxation including Budget and Finance Bill Aspects, vehicle number plates and trade licensing
- Policy on vehicle roadworthiness and testing
The Division replaced the earlier Driver and Vehicle Licensing Policy Division set up in 1995 with identical responsibilities.
In 1999 the division was renamed the Licensing and Enforcement Policy Division.
