Printed prize appeal from the High Court of Admiralty.
Captured ship: Lewis (master William Dickson).
Nationality: American.
History: bound from New York to Aux Cayes, Saint Domingue, laden with provisions and dry goods, earthenware, nails and ironmongery; taken on 30 November 1797 or 1798 by HMS Thunderer (William Ogilvie commanding), and brought into Cape Nicola Mole, Saint Domingue.
Appellant: William Compton merchant of London on behalf of James Lapiere merchant of New York, for the cargo.
Respondent: The captor and HMPG.
Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 9 June 1803 (folios 62-70).
Decision: cargo to be restored subject to further proof.
