Printed prize appeal from the High Court of Admiralty.
Captured ship: Clarissa (master Supply Simmonds).
Nationality: American.
History: bound from Surinam to Amsterdam, laden with coffe, cocoa and cotton [ans tobacco]; taken on 12 January 1796 by the privateer Daphne (Thomas Abbott commanding), and brought into [Woodbridge Haven, Essex with the intention of smuggling the tobacco].
Appellant: The master on behalf of Samuel Brown and and George Henry Apthorp merchants of Boston for part of the cargo; also William Burgess merchant of London for 3/4 of the ship and part of the cargo on behalf of S Brown and Perez Morton merchants of Boston.
The King and HMPG.
Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 21 June 1800 (folios 156-190).
Decision: ship and cargo condemned as lawful prize.
