Folios 5-6. Letter of thanks from the Earl of Macclesfield and others to [the Duke of Newcastle]. Reference is made to an enquiry carried out by Lord Justice Clerk 'into the conduct of Mr Carre, the Sheriff of Berwickshire, upon the application made to him for causing Lieutenant Cranstoun'. Signed by the Earl of Macclesfield, Thomas Parker, Philip Powys, John Freeman, Temple Stanyan, Edwd [Edward] Pauncefort, John Clerke, Sambrooke Freeman, James Lambden (Mayor), Richard Miles, Tho [Thomas] Newell and William Stockwood.
