Folios 1-2. Petition by 18 London merchants on behalf of themselves and others to the Earl of Holdernesse [Secretary of State for the Southern Department] praying that their claim against the Spanish Crown for restitution for the four vessels and their cargos seized as prizes on 9 August 1748 be considered. The vessels are named as the 'Alicant', the 'Gloucester', the 'Queen of Hungary' and the 'Leith'. Other vessels named are the 'Mary', the 'Fanny', the 'Fortune', the 'Elizabeth' and HMS Fox. People named are Governor Trelawny, Mr [Edward] Manning and Don Pedro Gariochea. [See also SP 36/117/1/206-207].
