Folios 16-17. Memorial of Captain John Gordon to Newcastle requesting that the King support his claim to the Scottish estates formerly held by his deceased father, Sir James Gordon of Park, now attainted by his [Jaobite] brother Sir William Gordon. That Captain Gordon being an officer of marines, had volunteered to go with Sir Charles Pawlett [Powlett] at the time of the 'unatural rebellion in 1745'; whose 'unhappy misled' brother Sir William had only joined the rebels after they had possession of Edinburgh and the 'affair' of [the Battle of] Prestonpans.
