The Ordnance Survey Internation Collection was created in 1946 and was part of the Colonial Office's Directorate of Colonial Surveys. It was subsequently renamed the Directorate of Overseas Surveys in 1957. In 1984, the Directorate of Overseas Surveys was merged with the Ordnance Survey and became the Overseas Surveys Directorate. In 1991 it was renamend Ordnance Survey International. In 2001, Ordnance Survey International disbanded. Following a review in 2002, Ordnance Survey decided that the Ordnance Survey International Library was no longer needed for operational purposes.
