The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) was established under the Energy Act 2004 and is responsible for the decommissioning and clean-up of the UK's civil public sector nuclear sites. The NDA is a strategic authority that owns 19 sites and the associated civil nuclear liabilities and assets of the public sector, previously under the control of UKAEA and BNFL.The NDA is a non-departmental public body (in 2009 its sponsoring government department was the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC)); for some aspects of its functions in Scotland it is responsible to Scottish Ministers.
