Grant by Elizabeth I to Walter Devereux, earl of Essex, of the lordships of Clandeboye, The Route, the Glens and Rathlin within the earldom of Ulster, Ireland, in part so that the lordships may be peopled and inhabited by Englishmen, on the understanding that the earl will enter the said lordships with 200 English horsemen (sufficiently furnished with English horses) to colonise the said realm of Ireland.
