Indenture confirming that if Robert Bowes, esq, Treasurer of the town of Berwick, and Ralph Bowes of Barnes, Durham, gent, his son and heir, continue to pay £500 into the Exchequer yearly for six years to satisfy the remainder of a £7000 debt owed to Elizabeth I by Robert Bowes, then the several lands and estates given by previous indentures to Sir William Cecil, Lord Treasurer, Sir John Fortescue, chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Thomas Egerton, master of the rolls, and Edward Coke, attorney general, in consideration of this debt will revert to Ralph and Robert Bowes. By previous indentures, Ralph Bowes granted the manor of Aske and all the lands and estates (named) belonging to Robert Bowes and Eleanor, Robert's wife, in Yorkshire, plus all the coalmines lately demised to Ralph Bowes by John Wickliffe, gent, Margaret Lorrell, widow, and William Lorrell, gent, in Offerton, Durham. Since this surrender Ralph Bowes had also granted the waste grounds at Micklehugh near Sunderland, with the salt works built there. Sealed by Ralph Bowes. 38 Eliz I
