Indenture between Richard Whalley of Welbeck, Nottinghamshire, esq, and William Paulet, Lord Treasurer, Sir Richard Sackvile, undertreasurer of the Exchequer, and Sir Walter Mildmay, chancellor of the Exchequer (acting on behalf of Elizabeth I), relating to the delivery of 5000 tonnes of timber to the waterside in Stockwith-upon-Trent, Nottinghamshire, for the provision of the works at Berwick, originally negotiated by Whalley and the Lord Treasurer in the reigns of Philip and Mary. Whalley delivered 1508 tonnes of timber in the first year of Elizabeth's reign and shall be paid £1742 for the delivery of the remaining 3492 tonnes of timber once delivery is confirmed by Sir Richard Lea, knight, surveyor of the works at Berwick. Three letters of receipt are attached, signed by Paulet, Mildmay, and Lea, confirming the completed delivery by Whalley of the remaining timber between May 1566 and March 1567.
