Description

This series contains records generated by the Royal Estates Division. The Royal Estates Division undertook a variety of works, including working alongside the Royal Parks Agency, Historic Royal Palaces, as well as specific programmes of work, including the restoration of the Prince Albert Memorial, one of the largest heritage state conservation programmes managed within the UK at that time. The division also had responsibility for architecture policy, alongside its relationships with the various Royal Estates. The following series prefixes were utilised by the division: RE/ALB (Royal Estates, Albert Memorial); RE/ARC (Royal Estates, Architecture). RE/ASP (Royal Estates, Aspley House); RE/BS (Royal Estates, Burlington House); RE/CER (Royal Estates, Ceremonials); RE/GHB (Royal Estates, Government Historic Buildings); RE/HRP (Royal Estates, Historic Royal Palaces); RE/OCC (Royal Estates, Occupied Royal Palaces); RE/OSB (Royal Estates, Osborne House); RE/RA (Royal Estates, Royal Armouries); RE/RFAC (Royal Estates, Royal Fine Art Commission); RE/RN (Royal Estates; Royal Naval College); RE/RPA (Royal Estates, Royal Park Agency) and RE/STA (Royal Estates, Statutes).

The Royal Estate Division was set up in 1993 as one of three Divisions in the Heritage and Tourism Group. It had responsibility for the sponsorship of the Royal Armouries, Historic Royal Palaces Agency, Royal Fine Art Commission and Royal Parks Agency. It also had responsibility for works and programmes on the residential Royal Palaces and Ceremonials.
