Folios 95-97. West from the Treasury Chambers and William Wood [Secretary to the Commissioners of Customs] (writing on 11 July) to the Secretary at War [Henry Fox]. Relating to the 'outrageous behaviour' of the smugglers on the coast of Lincoln[shire]. The commissioners receiving an account from the Collector and Comptroller of Customs at Boston about a large gang of smugglers at (nearby) Wrangle, and requests nothing less than a troop of dragoons to be sent to those parts. Also a report from the Collector at Yarmouth concerning information from Captain Thomas Ward of HMS 'Swift' about the taking of a smuggling cutter laden with sixty one oil skin bags, containing six thousand seven hundred and twenty pounds weight of tea which the smugglers at Boston were waiting to carry off the barge.
