Folios 72-77. Petition of William Pope and Robert Wilson under sentence of death (two copies). Testimony of Nathan Collier vicar of Croydon in Surrey. While Pope and Wilson were convicted at the Surrey Assizes in Croydon of robbing one Thomas Wieldy in Walworth Field last February, they deny the charges and are absolutely innocent of the said offence. Having known the plaintiff and his witness, they claim that Wieldy was not robbed at all, and had only concocted this scheme to claim the reward money.
