Description

Folios 353-354: James Pickard, Commander, 22 Norfolk Street, Strand.

Encloses his certificate invaliding him from HMS Tenedos on the Halifax Station, dated 12 May. Subsequently he was made Commander and appointed to the Rover on the same station, but has to tell them that he is obliged to quit due to the severity of the climate. He is very grateful for the honour and hopes to serve in some more temperate climate than America. Sets out the details of when his half pay is due and at what rank.

Folio 355: Enclosure with folios 353-354: Order by Edward Griffith, Rear Admiral, Commanding at Halifax, 12 May 1814. Three surgeons: Skipsey from the Centurion, Alexander Gordon from the Chesapeake, and Rawlins of the Boren, testify that Pickard suffers from headache and weakness, a 'long indisposition by a nervous affliction' makes him not fit for service amd advise he should return to England for the recovery of his health.
