Folios 278-279: Sir Home Riggs Popham, HMS Stirling Castle, Spithead.
Reporting that he arrived at Spithead at 5pm on the 29th May, having left St Helena on the 25th March. Ships in convoy named: Indiamen - Metcalfe, Baring, Fairlie, General Stuart, Ocean, Huddart, Devaynes, Sir Geoffrey Webster, David Scott, Charles Mills, James Sibbold, Walrus, Ceres, Admiral Colpoys, Eliza, Indispensable, and Theodosia; also the Albinia transport, and the Nelson merchant ship. On the 9th May they fell in with the Woodbridge, a country ship which had been taken on the line by the Little Adams, an American Corvette, and on the 10th they recaptured the brig, Joan, of Bristol, from Cork bound for Quebec, which was captured on the 1st of May by the American privateer schooner, Amelia. He adds that the convoy has been sent on to the Downs, as he has been informed of the peace and he assumes they will arrive there the following day [ie 30 May].
