Description

Folios 191-192: James Keith Shepard, Gravesend. States the cases of six men; George Handen, George Holmes, John Williams, Isaac Lawson, John Morris and Joseph Valentine who were impressed between 9 and 12 August 1811. Gives details of the circumstances, ages, physical description and why he considers the men not to be exempt from the impress. Lieutenant Jordan and Lieutenant Petley also mentioned and the following ships and vessels: the Fairy; the Windlesham an East Indiaman; the Ceylon, an East Indiaman; the Wexford, an East Indiaman and the Olive Branch.

Folios 193-194: Enclosure with folios 191-192: William Buchanan, Agent of the United States for the Isles of France and Bourbon, 18 November 1807. Certificate of Protection of American seaman for John Williams, aged 22, of Newark, New Jersey on the grounds he is an American citizen.

Folio 195: Enclosure with folios 191-192: Laurence Meine, Collector of the District of Tappahannock, Virginia, [ April 1805?]. Certificate of Protection of American Seaman for Isaac Lawson, aged 19, certifying he is an American citizen.

Folios 196-197: Certificate of Protection of American Seamen for George Hamden. [Illegible and very fragile].

Folio 198: Enclosure with folios 191-192: William Lyman, Consul of the United States of America in London, 20 October 1809. Certificate of Protection of American Seaman for George Holmes, aged 18, of New York on the grounds he is an American citizen.
