Folios 245-246: Thomas Percival, HMS Echo, Downs. Notes that in the packet is enclosed a copy of his orders, a weekly report of the sick, a list of Convoy and Log of the proceedings of HM Sloop Echo, and announces his arrival in the Downs this day with the vessels listed. His Log begins the day of leaving Gibraltar until joining company with HMS Andromache at sea, and from the day they parted company until the present date. By Admiral [Samuel Hood] Linzee's orders he was directed to call at Cadiz and wat a few hours to collect the trade there, but wind and weather have made that impossible. Four of the convoy put back to Gibraltar and the others were much scattered, so as Admiral Linzee did not know of any vessels waiting for convoy he thought it best to collect the few ships with him and 'gain his westing'. Of his convoy, one brig parted company on the night of 21 September in a NW gale; another was lost sight of on 3 October, also in a NW gale close into Scilly, and the two storeships with two others parted company with Echo yesterday, off the Needles.
Folios 247-248: Enclosure with folios 245-246. Letter dated 28 August 1813 by Samuel Hood Linzee, HMS San Juan, Gibraltar, to Captain Thomas Percival, HMS Echo. Orders for Captain Percival from Linzee, Rear Admiral of the Blue. Directs him to take charge of the two storeships, Malabar and Weymouth, together with any other Transports and Trade vessels, and to proceed to England, via Cadiz. Should he meet with any vessels at sea he is to hoist the Quarantine flag and the rest of the convoy is to do the same.
Folio 249: Enclosure with folios 245-246. Thomas Cock, Surgeon, HMS Echo, 4-11 October 1813. Weekly return of sick and wounded for HMS Echo. Two wounded and two discharged. Robert Jackson named as Assistant Surgeon on this form.
