Description

Folios 197-198: Philip Pipon, Jersey. Acknowledges receipt and gives thanks for their lordships' letter of 7th September, informing him of his appointment to the command of HMS Tagus, at Portsmouth. The Governor of Jersey has been helpful and he has hopes of joining the Tagus within the week. Encloses a list of men to be discharged from the Daphne and into his next ship, and a letter confirming his right to do so.

Folio 199: Enclosure with folios 197-198. Philip Pipon, 20 March 1813. Captain Pipon's list of chosen men discharged from his old ship, the Daphne, who are to acompany him to his new command, as agreed between himself and Captain Green. Names: First Lieutenant William Davies, James Wright, gunner, Mr Hildrup, master's mate, Mr Henry Steddy, Mr I. St. B. Bell, Mr Messervy, and Mr Robilliard, midshipmen, Mr Molyneux, first class of volunteers, Charles Drake, trumpeter, and Mr Lewer, clerk.

Folios 200-201: Enclosure with folios 197-198. Philip Pipon, Jersey, 11 September 1813. Letter explaining the list of men chosen from the Daphne that Pipon wishes to take to the Tagus, as promised by Admiral Hope. Confirms he has sent a similar list to Captain Green and that he is in 'perfect concurrence'. He mentions particularly Lieutenant William Davies, first on the list, whom he describes as a very excellent young man and a very good officer, also the gunner, James Wright, second on his list, who is 'highly deserving of promotion'.
