Folio 173: Enclosure in folios 1701-71. James Reddington, the Purser of HMS Thames, Sheerness. He says that the ship is to be paid off on the 12th September, that he has served in her since July 1800, when his former ship HMS Meleager, of 36 guns, was wrecked and he lost all his belongings. He says HMS Thames is inferior to HMS Meleager, and is now to become a troop ship on the footing of a sixth rater, which means his position will be further reduced. He therefore asks to be removed to a larger ship.
