Folios 168-169: Enclosure with folios 166-167. Lieutenant Richard Cole, HMS Thames, Sheerness harbour, 11 September 1813, to Captain John Strutt Peyton. A request that he be given a commission on another frigate, as HMS Thames is being paid off. He details his career, served nine years in line-of-battle ships with Sir Samuel Hood, as Midshipman and then Lieutenant in HMS Amsterdam, HMS Centaur, and HMS Hibernia. He was recommended to Sir Edward Pellew for a frigate, but was asked to stay with HMS Hibernia by Sir Richard Keats and did so until Keats left, when he was appointed to HMS Thames. He says it is too short a time to serve in frigates, which he particularly desires to do, and his friends Sir Samuel Hood and Sir Richard Keats being abroad, asks that he be appointed to another frigate.
