Folios 191-192: Charles Phillips, Upnor, Rochester. Reports that his improved capstan has been fitted to HMS Seringapatam and it is ready to undergo sea trials. He suggests that as comparisons have been drawn between his capstan and one designed by Mr Hindmarch which is fitted on HMS Curacoa he suggests that it too undergo similar trials so comparisons can be made. He also suggests further improvements to his design. He says that HMS Winchester's capstan was meant to be installed on HMS Southampton but its replacement is not yet ready and so he suggests his capstan be installed on that ship too. He makes suggestions for its installation and inspection. He enclosea a detailed drawing of his new capstan and a drawing of is works.
