Description

Folios 178-179: John Philips, Regulating Captain, Bristol. Robert Roberts was impressed by Lieutenant Rowe. He is aged between 18 and 19, five feet seven, and is an ordinary seaman. He was pressed on the Quay looking out for a West Indiaman to sail in. He said he was not an apprentice and belonged to no vessel, that he had been upwards of two yeras at sea. He is gone to Plymouth in the tender.

Folios 180-181: Enclosure with folios 178-179: Abraham Peel, George Yard, Lombard Street, 8 March 1813. Sends the indenture of Robert Roberts apprentice to Richard Roberts of Carnarvon and an affidavit by Richard Roberts proving that this lad is really an apprentice and that he never served at sea previous to the date of the indenture. This lad having on the 26th ultimo been impressed from the brig Providence and being now detained on HMS Enchatress. Asks his immediate release.

Folio 182: Enclosure with folios 178-179: Examination of Richard Roberts of Carnarvon, merchant and ship owner, taken on oath before Henry Jones Clerk, Justice of the Peace, 4 March 1813. [Robert Roberts is the son of Richard Roberts]. Indenture dated 27 April 1811 bound apprentice to him to serve at sea on board of any vessel belonging to Richard Roberts for 3 years. Protection was granted by the Admiralty to Robert Roberts on or about 17 July 1812 in pursuance of said indenture, which is in the custody of Robert Roberts or lost.
