Description

Folios 143-144: Richard Poulden, HMS hired transport Montreal in the Tagus, Captain, Royal Navy and Principal Agent of Transports, 18 February 1813. Disapprobation of conduct with regards to baggage ships in the Tagus with enclosures.

Folios 145-146: Enclosure 1: (Copy letter) Sir John Barrow, Admiralty Office, 14 November 1812 to the Transport Board. Concerning reprimand of Captain Poulden and the detention of transports in the Tagus.

Folios 147-148: Enclosure 2: (Copy letter) Marquis Wellington, Headquarters, 20 March 1811, to Honourable G. C. Berkeley, Commander in Chief. Concerning transports attached to the army in the Tagus and the sending home of troops.

Folios 149-150: Enclosure 3: (Copy letter) Richard Poulden, Lord Mulgrave in the Tagus, 24 March 1811 to Honourable G. C. Berkeley, Commander in Chief, about the impracticability of placing the baggage of one division of infantry and cavalry in one ship, opinion shared by Captain Mackenzie, the Assistant Quarter Master General at Lisbon.

Folios 151-152: Enclosure 4: (Copy letter) Richard Poulden, Lord Mulgrave in the Tagus, 25 March 1811 to Honourable G. C. Berkeley, Commander in Chief, with regards to the baggage of the army, and a saving to the public of nearly £40,000 per annum if the said baggage was stored in the Royal Portuguese Arsenal.

Folios 153-154: Enclosure 5: (Copy letter) George Martin, Boa Morte, 10 February 1813 to Richard Poulden regarding the detention of the baggage transports in the Tagus.
