Description

Captured ship: Friedrich der Zweite König von Preussen or Fredericus de Secunde or Fredericus de Tweede (master Christian Schultz).

History: a Prussian merchant ship (72 tons, 6 men and a boy), bound from Bordeaux to Königsberg, laden with wine, brandy, vinegar, sugar, treacle and Hungary Water; taken on 24 March / 4 April 1748 four leagues off Beachy Head by the privateers Duke of Dorset (John Hunt commanding) and Endeavour (Robert Crouscuall commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 7-CP 16]: 5 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Königsberg, Elbing and Danzig, between 17 April 1748 and 10 June 1748, and brought into court in July 1748;
  • [CP 17-CP 18]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 18 ship's papers [these papers were restored].
