Administrative / biographical background

The Office for Judicial Complaints (OJC) was set up on 3 April 2006 and is an associated office of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). The OJC supports the Lord Chancellor and the Lord Chief Justice in their joint responsibility for the system of judicial complaints and discipline and seeks to ensure that all judicial disciplinary issues are dealt with consistently, fairly and efficiently. The OJC handles these complaints and provides advice and assistance to the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice in the performance of their joint role.

On 1 October 2013 the Judicial Conduct and Investigations Office (JCIO) took over the responsibilities of the OJC.
