Description

County or diocese: various.

Grant: unknown.

Document type: Wrappers, auditor's memoranda and fragments.

Folios or pages: 50.

This piece comprises a bundle of around 50 fragmentary and miscellaneous documents and fragments of documents which appear to relate to the accounting of seventeenth-century taxation. The documents within this piece were formerly part of the contents of the appendix boxes which bore the reference E 179/321 and which were divided and catalogued in 2005, and comprise the documents which could not be identified to any meaningful degree. The majority form notes or drafts compiled at the Exchequer during the accounting of taxation, such as rough notes to auditors, summaries of unidentified accounts, or lists of figures, but there are also a number of paper wrappers or file markers, and other documents which may relate to the accounting of sums other than tax revenue.

The majority of the individual documents are written on paper, and all appear to date to the seventeenth century. Place names do appear on some documents, but usually only in the context of lists of figures which cannot now be identified.
