Description

County or diocese: Lincoln.

Grant: Clerical tenth on unassessed benefices, Canterbury province, 1446 July 8 or earlier.

Document type: Account.

Folios or pages: 1.

This roll of one parchment membrane is the account rendered by John Makworth, dean of Lincoln, as collector in the archdeaconries of Lincoln and Stow, in the diocese of Lincoln, of the second payment of the tenth on unassessed benefices granted to Henry VI by the clergy of the province of Canterbury in the convocation that began on 22 June 1446. It is undated, and although it should have been written around 24 June 1448, when the second payment was due to be collected, a note in the upper left hand corner recording that the account was examined at the Exchequer in Easter term 27 Henry VI, which would have ended around 23 May 1449, suggests that the document was written on or just before that date.

The document is torn and damaged in places, but what remains is legible.
