This is the appointment of John [Marshall], bishop of Llandaff, of collectors, and schedule of exemptions for the clerical tenth granted to Edward IV in 1478, for the diocese of Llandaff.
The document is in fair condition, although slightly faded in parts, and is legible.
The document is dated at Wigmore and endorsed with a dated note of delivery into the Exchequer by Owen Merydyth.
The document is laid out in paragraphs; the first is the appointment of the abbot and convent of Tewkesbury as collectors for both instalments of the tenth, the second lists poor monks and nuns to be exempted, comprising the abbot and convent of Grace Dieu, the prior and convent of Abergavenny, the prioress and sisters of Usk, and the priors and convents of Chepstow, St. Kingsmark and Malpas.
The third paragraph on the face of the document, continuing onto the dorse, lists benefices to be exempted in the deaneries of Abergavenny, Usk, Netherwent, Newport, Llandaff and Groneath.
