Folio 523.
To: The Local Government Act Office.
From: Messrs Radcliffe and Layton, Clerks to the Local Board of West Derby, Liverpool [Lancashire].
Subject Matter: Letter requesting an opportunity to be heard against a claim made by the Walton Local Board against the West Derby Local Board relating to the Rocky Lane district.
They state that the rateable value of lodgings in the Rocky Lane area that have been added to the West Derby District is £326, yielding £28 10s 6d in rates. However, they enclose a copy of a letter from J Rayner, Town Clerk of Liverpool, stating that the property is not likely to be rateable as it comprises judge's lodgings 'set apart for public purposes connected with the Government of the Country'.
They submit that the West Derby Local Board will therefore only receive £2 2s 5-and-a-quarter d from rateable land with which to pay the cost of loan interest and maintenance relating to the road.
