To: The Home Secretary.
From: Robert Rawlinson, Superintending Inspector, The Local Government Act Office.
Subject Matter: Report on an application from the Local Board of West Derby [Lancashire] to be allowed to borrow £1500 for road improvements.
He reports that the road in question is a main highway from West Derby to Liverpool that was recently under the jurisdiction of the Township of Walton-on-the-Hill. He states that the West Derby Local Board wishes to widen the road and improve its surface and sewerage.
The population of West Derby, he states, is 25,000 and rapidly increasing. The rateable value of property in the District is £137,403 and total local debt amounts to £44,085.
He adds that the plans and sections of the works have been properly prepared and the estimate is reasonable, and recommends that sanction is granted for a loan of £1500 to be repaid over 15 years.
