Folios 111-112.
To: The General Board of Health.
From: Edward Strick, Clerk to the Swansea Local Board of Health, Swansea [Glamorganshire].
Subject Matter: Letter advising that the Trustees of the Harbour of Swansea have availed themselves of their power to 'Float the old course of the River' and in so doing were required to build a sewer along the Strand to intercept the several drains that discharged into the river.
He explains that the Trustees proposed to make £1925 available to the Local Board to construct the sewer in question, so that it would be built with regard to the general system of drainage in the town. He adds that a contract was entered into with Thomas Davies to complete the work, but due to its slow process the work was taken out of the contractor's hands and given to Mr Gant, the Borough Surveyor. He advises that Gant has completed the work as far as a point midway between Anchor Court and Dragon Street, and estimates that an additional sum of £700 is required to complete it. He asks for sanction to the Local Board borrowing this sum.
He encloses a copy of Gant's report on the works [not included in the item].
