The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) is the national development agency working for and behalf of museums, libraries and archives and advising government on policy and priorities for the sector. The MLA is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). It was launched in April 2000 and replaced the Museums and Galleries Commission (MGC) and the Library and Information Commission (LIC), and was formerly known as the Resource Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries (or Resource) until 2004.
