Intelligence: German shipbuilding: rearmament of German warships: Information regarding German torpedoes and tubes.

Folio 1: Title page.

Folio 2: Explanatory note. During the period of the War, papers of a confidential nature in the office of the C-in-C Home Fleet were filed in Packs (numbered separately from the non-confidential records) in a Series 001 to 0042 inclusive. Copies of relevant telegrams were filed in these packs, but a complete set of all telegrams was also maintained. The secret packs were re-arranged by the Grand Fleet secretarial staff in February 1919, when papers considered unimportant were removed and destroyed, and the remainder re-indexed. They were received in this form by the Historical Section in April 1920, and bound as received, in a series of Volumes. The 1919 index will be found in the first volume (see ADM 137/1881) and extracts from these have been inserted in each succeeding volume. This volume is the 29th of the series.

Folios 14-16: Letter NID 10611, 14 September 1916 from Director of Intelligence Division to C-in-C Grand Fleet. Capabilities of Brumer and Bremse forwarded.

Folios 17-23: Letter NID 15111/17, 16 September 1917 from Director of Intelligence Division to C-in-C Grand Fleet. Report regarding launching of Graf Von Spree and German capital ship construction giving on the slips or competing with name of ship where known, where building/built and approximate date of completion. Further papers with Admiralty comments on the report.

Folios 24-26: Letter NID/OL 782, 12 March 1918 from Director of Intelligence Division to C-in-C Grand Fleet. Table showing probable position of German battle cruisers in September 1918.

Folio 26 gives information on German construction and also Russian Battle Cruiser construction and Russian Light Cruiser construction.

Folios 27-28: Letter NID 11068, 7 April 1917 from Director of Intelligence Division to C-in-C Grand Fleet. Plan of new German Battle Cruiser with remarks on design. Drawings are 1:500 scale and dated February 1917.

Folio 30: Information on launching of German submarines [author not stated]. Received date of 14 May 1918 marked.

Folios 31-34: Letter NID 12535, 9 May 1918 from Director of Intelligence Division to C-in-C Grand Fleet. Comments on debate in Reichstag on 18 April 1918 on submarine warfare and paper titled “Delays in submarine construction – causes of – Information derived from prisoners: Engine Room PO of U.14; Engineer Sub-Lieutenant of UB.55.

Folios 35-36: Table comparing German cruiser submarine with Proposed British cruiser submarine and “K” Class and “J” Class submarines issued by Captain of the Fleet. Received date of 10 May 1918 marked. Comparison made in terms such as size, weight, speed, endurance, armament.

Folios 37-40: Letter NID 12475, 7 May 1918 from Director of Intelligence Division to C-in-C Grand Fleet. Copy of design for new German submarine cruiser with report. Drawing dated 15 December 1917.
