Description

Prisoner name: Thomas Chapman alias Derrick.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey December Sessions 1827.

Crime: Horse stealing.

Initial sentence: Death.

Annotated (Outcome): Considered at Report in Council 5 March 1828. The Law to take its course. R P [Robert Peel].

Petitioner(s): Prisoner and 45 inhabitants of Bedminster Somerset; 105 inhabitants of Bedminster.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Respectable connections; agricultural background; first offence; previous good character.
